Jhirna Forest Zone in Jim Corbett National Park

Jhirna Zone, located on the southern periphery of the Corbett Tiger Reserve, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, the area is home to sloth bears, wild elephants, and an impressive variety of other wildlife. This zone stands out for being open to visitors throughout the year, making it one of the most accessible and attractive spots within the reserve.

Topography and Wildlife: Jhirna is characterized by its deciduous and secondary forests, interspersed with lush open grasslands. This diverse landscape provides excellent visibility for wildlife sightings. Visitors can expect to encounter animals such as nilgai, sambhar, cheetal, wild boar, and the majestic Bengal tiger. Additionally, Jhirna is a paradise for bird watchers, with a wide array of bird species frequenting the area.

Accommodation:

  • Jhirna Forest Rest House: This rest house offers four rooms, each equipped with a double bed and an attached bathroom. While amenities are basic, the rest house provides a unique opportunity for true wildlife enthusiasts to immerse themselves in nature. Limited solar electricity is available for essential needs.

Safari Experience: Access to Jhirna Zone is through Dhela Gate, located approximately 20 km from Ramnagar. Jeep Safaris are the primary mode of exploration, and a registered nature guide is mandatory. These safaris allow visitors to traverse the dense forests and expansive grasslands, enhancing the chances of spotting wildlife.

Facilities:

  • The rest house features a kitchen where visitors can bring their own raw vegetarian materials to be cooked by the resident cook. Alcohol is prohibited within the lodge.

  • The compound offers a spacious open area for guests to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Attractions:

  • Chaurs (Grasslands): The Laldhang Chaur near Jhirna is a favored spot for wild herbivores such as elephants and deer.

  • Flora & Fauna: Jhirna's terrain includes large open grasslands and dry deciduous forests, with numerous natural streams and warm stream beds ideal for bird watching.

Night Stay: Night stays at Jhirna Forest Rest House are permitted from November 15th to June 15th each year, subject to favorable weather conditions. Outside of these dates, night stays are not available.
